Managing Partner
James brings wide legal and management experience to his role as Webb Farry's Managing Partner. He began his career as a commercial lawyer and in that capacity worked for Webb Farry in the late 1990's before moving on to become a Partner with a leading Southland practice. Wishing to focus more directly on business leadership and management, James returned to Dunedin and Webb Farry in 2004, initially working as the firm's General Manager and completing an applied management degree, before joining the partnership in 2008.
James has overall responsibility for the firm's management and operations, working closely with Tracy Stevenson (administration manager), Tania Graham (systems & accounts manager) and Stacey McMaster (accounts manager). James leads all aspects of Webb Farry's strategic planning, with a particular focus on practice improvement, business development and staff mentoring. He provides external business advisory consulting services and also has a facilitatory role in relation to some business, property and sports law matters.
James is a member of the Institute of Directors, an external moderator for the Institute of Professional Legal studies, and a board member of both the Otago Cricket Association and the Southern Golf Foundation Trust. He has previously been a director of Law Alliance New Zealand Limited (a strategic alliance involving Webb Farry and over 40 other New Zealand law firms) as well as a junior coach at the Kaikorai Cricket Club and committee member and junior coach at the Kaikorai Rugby Club.
Outside of work James keeps busy with his family and enjoys playing golf, travelling and reading.
