Peter Chin is a consultant to Webb Farry and has over 40 years of legal experience. He has been a Dunedin City Councillor since 1995 and was elected Mayor of Dunedin in 2004.

Peter was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2003 in acknowledgment of his services to local body and community affairs. He has been honorary solicitor for many organisations including the Disabled Citizens Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Otago & Southland Chinese Association.

Peter is a highly respected member of the NZ Chinese community. He is a member of the NZ Chinese Poll Tax Advisory Team, and the chairperson of the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust.

Peter has also been long involved in the performing arts. He has performed in many productions of the Dunedin Opera Company and the Dunedin Operatic Society and is regularly invited to compere concerts. He had featured in the New Zealand film "Illustrious Energy", the TV documentary series "Hanlon" and the TV series "Gold".

Peter enjoys playing golf and trout fishing. Prior to his election as Mayor he worked largely in the wills, trusts, estate administration and conveyancing fields. He is a fluent speaker of Cantonese.
